Detailed Goal: Managing Anger
Watch, Play, Learn SEL Block: Elmo is Angry
Basma leaves the beautiful butterfly wings Jad made for her out in the rain. Jad discovers the ruined wings. Chicken interrupts with a big feelings alert – it’s their friend Elmo! Filo crushed Elmo's cardboard plane and now he can't fly it. Elmo's brow is creased, his arms are crossed, and he's breathing heavily through his nose. Basma, Jad and Chicken help Elmo to identify his emotion as "anger" and feel better by drawing it out. Jad uses the same technique and decides they don’t need wings, he and Basma can pretend to be butterflies.
Watch, Play, Learn SEL Block: Gargur is Angry
Basma and Jad are pretending to be goats with Ma’zooza, but while jumping around Basma’s goat horns fall off and get ruined. This makes her angry and she doesn’t feel like playing anymore. Chicken interrupts with a big feelings alert – it’s their friend Gargur! Gargur is sitting on a bench with Halum. They explain that Gargur is upset because Halum accidentally crushed Gargur’s very special very tall hat. Basma and Jad help Gargur identify his emotion as “anger” and help him feel better by belly breathing. Belly breathing helps Gargur and Basma feel better.
Watch, Play, Learn SEL Block: Turtle is Angry
Basma, Jad, Kaki, and Zoe are pretending to be gardeners and plants. Gardener Basma has watered everyone but Jad and this makes Jad feel angry. Chicken interrupts with a big feelings alert – it’s their friend Turtle. Turtle has been doing a painting, but she is upset because she accidentally put a blob of paint where it doesn’t go. Basma and Jad help Turtle identify her feeling as “anger” and help her calm down by teaching her how to “be a tree.” The be a tree technique helps Jad and Turtle feel less angry.
Watch, Play, Learn SEL Block: Zoe is Angry
Basma and Jad are playing pretend at their orb. Jad asks to play bus driver, but Basma keeps playing airplane instead. Chicken interrupts with a big feelings alert – it’s their friend Zoe! Zoe and Gargur were playing with pebbles, but Gargur lost Zoe’s favorite one. Basma and Jad help Zoe identify her feeling as “angry” and help her feel better by teaching her how to “move your body.” By helping Zoe realize she was angry, Jad and Basma were able to go back to their orb and play airplane together.
