Detailed Goal: Managing Determination 

Watch, Play, Learn SEL Block: Kaki is Determined 
Basma and Jad are playing shop keeper selling pretend vegetables. Basma is trying to hang up their sign on a tree but is having trouble reaching the branch. She keeps trying and trying. Chicken interrupts with a big feelings alert – it’s their friend Kaki! Kaki has been practicing a new Karate move but has to keep trying and trying to get it right. Basma and Jad help Kaki identify his feeling as “determined” and teach him how to “be a tree” to help stay determined. Basma uses the “be a tree” strategy to help her stay determined and hang up the shop sign.  

Watch, Play, Learn SEL Block: Zoe is Determined 
Jad is showing Basma a new tongue twister he learned. Basma is having trouble saying it but doesn’t give up. Chicken interrupts with a big feelings alert – it’s their friend Zoe! Zoe keeps trying to build a sculpture of Gargur, but the sculpture keeps falling apart. Basma and Jad help Zoe identify her emotion as “determined” and help her stay determined by teaching her to “draw it out.” Drawing it out helps both Zoe and Basma stay determined. 

Watch, Play, Learn SEL Block: Turtle is Determined 
Basma is showing Jad a new game she came up with where you call out a new color every time you jump rope. Jad is having trouble doing this but doesn’t give up. Chicken interrupts with a big feelings alert – it’s their friend Turtle! Turtle is trying to fly her kite but can’t get it up in the air. Basma and Jad help Turtle identify her feeling as “determined” and help her stay determined by teaching her the “count to five” strategy. Counting to five helps both Turtle and Jad stay determined.
