Watch, Play, Learn SEL Block: Nervousness
Detailed Goal: Managing Nervousness
Watch, Play, Learn SEL Block: Elmo is Nervous
Basma and Jad are backstage getting ready to perform a play for all of their friends. Jad is going over new lines with Basma which makes Basma feel very nervous about performing. Chicken interrupts with a big feelings alert – it’s their friend Elmo! Elmo is painting Filo’s picture and is worried that she won’t like it. Basma and Jad help Elmo identify his feeling as “nervous” and teach him to belly breathe. Belly breathing helps both Elmo and Basma calm down and feel less nervous.
Watch, Play, Learn SEL Block: Filo is Nervous
Basma and Jad are playing carnival when Basma gets nervous about performing a trick. Chicken interrupts with a big feelings alert – it’s their friend Filo! Filo promised Kaki and Turtle that she would sing for them but is feeling very nervous. Basma and Jad help Filo identify her feeling as “nervous” and help her calm down by “counting to five.” By helping Filo with her nervousness, Basma is able to calm down as well.
Watch, Play, Learn SEL Block: Gargur is Nervous
Basma wants to teach Jad how to play “run rabbit run!” but Jad gets nervous about not knowing how to play this new game. Chicken interrupts with a big feelings alert – it’s their friend Gargur! Gargur is putting on a show for Ma’zooza and friends, but he feels nervous about showing them his cool tricks. Basma and Jad help Gargur identify his feeling as “nervous” and teach him to “talk talk talk it to himself” to feel better. This strategy helps Jad and Gargur feel less nervous.
Watch, Play, Learn SEL Block: Zoe is Nervous
Basma, Jad, Filo, Turtle, and Ma’zooza are acting out stories, but when it’s Jad’s turn, he can't perform. Chicken interrupts with a big feelings alert – it’s their friend Zoe! Gargur is teaching Zoe some new stretches, but she is worried that’s she not as stretchy as Gargur and she’s never done them before. Basma and Jad help Zoe identify her emotion as "nervous" and feel better by "moving it out". By helping Zoe, Jad recognizes that he was feeling "nervous" about acting out a story and he uses same technique to quiet his nerves and he tells the gang a story.
